About the Program


The Aquarium's Coastal Systems Teacher Institute is specifically designed for teachers of 3rd through 5th grade students.

This free program provides opportunities for teachers to:
  • Experience science notebook strategies.
  • Engage in learning about the nature of science.
  • Use coastal ecosystems to teach content standards.
  • Explore, question, investigate, collaborate and create.
  • Integrate content and process skills with language arts, math, technology and social studies.
  • Network with Aquarium educators and colleagues from around California.

Eligibility: Teams of full-time 3rd through 5th grade classroom teachers

Requirements:
  • Attend all sessions Monday through Friday during the summer.
  • Participate in three Saturday follow-up workshops throughout the school year.
  • Implement the curriculum with your students and share your efforts with institute participants.
  • Lead an in-service at your school site or district.
  • Participate in the Aquarium’s online professional development community.


Stipend: $100 per day is available upon completion of the program.

Credit: Units available through CSU Monterey Bay for an additional fee
